Last week, many of us had the pleasure of watching our fellow company member, Nicole Schretlen-Montes, in her second year production at Rose Bruford.

The show, Machinal by Sophie Treadwell, could not be a further cry from comedy improv with In Stitches! Written in 1928, it draws inspiration from the 1927 Ruth Snyder murder trial, told in a German Expressionist style.
"It was never to make a fool of myself, but letting go of control has made me stronger, a better actor, and a happier, better human being" - Nicole Schretlen-Montes, 2023
The show certainly proved Nicole’s versatility as a performer as she took on the challenging role of Helen, the character inspired by Snyder's story. Some of Nicole's starring moments included a heart wrenching monologue about her character’s post-natal depression, relationship with God, and disgust with her husband; and her gorgeous singing of the flower vendor’s songs in Spanish.

As a product of the American Theatre Arts course, the cast consisted of both Rose Bruford second year students and exchange students from the US. After having the opportunity to collaborate with these American students this semester, Nicole is excited to have the opportunity to take part in the exchange program herself.
In the Autumn she will be studying at The New School in New York. It is sure to be a fulfilling experience, though In Stitches will miss her!
All of our talented improvisers get up to exciting work outside of In Stitches. This week, Cameron Baker-Stewart will be performing in his third year musical with Rose Bruford, Seussical. Get your tickets HERE if you haven't already, and follow along with everything In Stitches on our blog and social media.
